Well, the year is almost over.  Finally got around to updating this website, we've been very busy.  Today I added the Lisianthus inventory with pictures.  It can be found under the assortment tab.

We have a new telephone number!  1 (604) 799-3704.

September 17, 2011

We've been picking lisianthus from the new greenhouse for about a week now, for those unfamiliar with our new varieties, I'd like to show you what they are.  We are the exclusive growers in North America with the 'Wonderous' series, they originate from Japan, and are a single lisianthus trademarked with many flowers.  It is not unusual for a stem to have five or more flowers.

The new greenhouse is finished!  Our first crops of Lisianthus & Chrysanthemums should be ready in about four weeks.

Happy Canada Day!  We stuck the first cuttings for the new greenhouse (all Space Age)  They should be ready the third week of September.  Monday will be the first auction to feature our new variety of Lisianthus:  Dark Purple and Cappucino.  They look very novel, but really will work well in bouquets.

May 31, 2011

First crop of sunflowers failed (snails) second crop is coming up nicely.  We just had a big flush of Chrysanthemums, supply should level out this week.

The greenhouse is really coming together fast.  Wires for the shading system are done, the roof is glazed, and the heating system is starting to come together.

Wow, two updates in one day!  Catalogue is updated with all current varieties.

May 9th, 2011

This year marks a special anniversary for the Chrysanthemum.  It's already been 50 years since they have been available year-round.  Dutch Heritage Greenhouse has grown them for 41 of those years.  I guess we know our mums!

The construction of the new greenhouse is coming along nicely, the corridor connecting the greenhouses is now clad in red, the glazers should be arriving soon to close up the greenhouse.  Pictures tomorrow!

Construction of the new greenhouse is currently underway.  We are expecting our first crop (lisianthus & mums) about the second week of September.  The poles are currently all up.  Will post progress of the build.

On another note, we recently aquired a few new mums to try out, a reagan variation, and a few fall colours.  These are currently in trial, we expect to have some in production in roughly 4 months.

February 18, 2011

With valentines behind us, it's time to focus on the upcoming year.  We are planning to expand our greenhouse this year.  We will grow 2500m2 Chrysanthemums, and 2500m2 Lisianthus.  We are very excited about this.  Currently plans are to have production the first week of September.

Updated our catalogue.  Tossed some varieties, photo's for the new stuff are on their way.

November 20, 2010

We are longer growing the following varieties:  Country, Green Art, High 5 Sunny & White Pin.  Our other varieties mentioned in the previous post will serve as replacements.

October 20, 2010

We are currently in the middle of our fall assortment.  Our Christmas varieties will slowly start building as November begins.  Expect lots of Arctic Queen, Shakira, Feeling Green, Marabou and Motown.  We also started production on some new and exciting varieties:  Bacardi, Quebec, Chelsea, Celebration, Bacardi Sunny & Le mans.

The first ones will bloom in approximately five weeks.  Expect a full run in January.  Lisanthus will be part of our assortment until Christmas.  Sunflowers will be done this week.

July 31, 2010

Wow, we've been very busy these last few weeks with everything.  The roses are finally getting some length (60cm!) and the sunflowers are in full production.  Within the next week we will start harvesting our first lisianthus of the year.  We will have both blue + white doubles. Monkshood will be ready next week as well, along with a sampling of our fall assortment of chrysanthemums.

Things at the Agassiz Farmers Market are really picking up now.  Thank you for all your purchases there.  For next week we will be featuring Lisianthus as well as 5$ bouquets.

September 02, 2010

Wow, 1 month with no updates.  Granted not much has been happening around here.  We're currently in the process of switching over to our fall assortment.  Featuring the Woodpeckers, Space Age, Roma, Raisa, Sunshine, Cream Zembla, Motown & Marabou.  Of course our other varieties will still be available, but in smaller quantities.

Next week we will be shipping some Lisianthus again.  Blue & White.  Sunflowers are still about 2 weeks away, but are looking great.  The first Monkshood are flowering, and we will start shipping next week.  Roses are currently in full production.

July 08, 2010

Well, the roses are in full swing.  They're not up to size yet, but they are beautiful.  We have shipped our first to UFG, and will continue to do so for the next week, then expect a dip in numbers.  Today is also our second time at the Agassiz Farmers Market which happens every thursday from 4-7PM, we will have most of our product with us included the first sunflowers & crocosmia.

June 24, 2010

Wow, prices are through the roof.  Luckily we have quality & quantity to match.  Our shipments are diverse and consistant, hopefully there is something there for everyone.

Our roses are also starting to bloom.  They are unbelievably big & fragrant.  Unfortunately they are not at length yet.  In the next 10 days they should be at least 50cm and ready to pick.  Sunflowers will also be ready in two weeks.  Because of the cold weather they have grown slowly, but they will be big once they are done.

June 15, 2010

This week is a very slow week for us flower wise.  The highlights this week include the first shipment of our new green buttons.

Country & Feeling Green Dark

They were very well received this morning.  Look for these to be available every auction from now.

June 1, 2010

Because of the weather the roses are still behind.  We pruned them yesterday and hope to have our first in about 3 weeks.

May 25, 2010

Our first sunflowers were ready, but they are a disaster.  Anyone else have problems with theirs?

May 17, 2010

The Dyed Gallery is now live.  Also thanks to everyone who is commenting on our site.  All input is appreciated.

May 15, 2010

We've had our first sale through the website this week.  Marcy from Floral Supply Vancouver ordered 2 pails through our site.  We encourage anyone who wants to order to just shoot us an e-mail, no matter how small the order.  We really appreciate everyones business.

Another note comes from Trudie from Limbert Farms who wrote:

"You now have a new record for the longest lasting flowers.  The mums (daisys) that I picked up on April 2 have just been composted today.  We, and our customers, have enjoyed 6 weeks of their happiness!  Thank you so much for providing the freshest and best for our displays and Tea Room."

May 10, 2010

Catalogue is updated.  All our regular sprays are now up.  Check them out. Also for tomorrows auction we have a wide range of beautiful flowers.  Check out the new colours in the dye mix.

April 15, 2010

A quick update noting that officially aren't short on flowers anymore.  Both coolers are full!  Week 15 is also our first week where we have 15000 extra cuttings available for sale.  If interested just contact us.

April 10, 2010

Monday April 12th will mark the return of our purple daisy 'Kingfisher' after being on hiatus for a few years we decided to bring it back.  As you can see in the picture the colour is very dark and vibrant.  Kingfisher is one of many new varieties we will be introducing in the coming weeks.  Look for previews in our mix.

April 06, 2010

Today we finished our roses outside.  They're planted, irrigation is laid, and bark mulch is spread.  In eight weeks we will have our first fragrant freeland roses.  Our two varieties are 'Caramel Antike' and 'Lovely Antike'. Also our first sunflowers have been planted, they will also be ready in about 8 weeks.  This year also marks the first that we will grow something a little different from our usual sunrich orange.  "sunrich orange summer" is a new and improved sunflower.

April 05, 2010

This week at Dutch Heritage we are still feeling the after effects of steam cleaning out soil.  When we started 10 weeks ago we had to create room to steam.  We created room by not planting for 3 days.  Now, 10 weeks later we are feeling the consequences.  Beautiful flowers, but for this week... very few.  Next week we should be back into full production.

April 01, 2010

Today marks the launch of our website.  We are happy to announce that our soil disease has been eradicated.  Our current flowers are a great improvement over the ones we shipped the last ~15 weeks.  We are currently experiencing a little bit of a slow down in production (this is associated with the steaming process we started 10 weeks ago).  However, we should be back to normal at the end of next week.  We've also contacted a photographer who will come down and catalogue all of our varieties.

So look forward to that in the next few weeks.
